Frequently Asked Questions
The most rewarding thing about being a Counsellor is giving hope when people feel hopeless. I love supporting people just like you towards making positive changes and seeing them getting the life they desire.
I’m nervous about starting therapy. Is that normal?
When starting therapy, it’s very common to feel nervous. It can be hard to talk about feelings out loud. The fear around that can feel overwhelming. It takes courage to start going to therapy. The fact that you are on this website, looking for help, and reading this right now shows that you are being brave and seeking help. We will go at your pace to ensure sessions are as comfortable as possible.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
Take your time to read through my website. If you sense that I may be a good fit based on what you are reading, you can email me by filling in the contact form at the bottom of the page. During your free phone consultation, you can ask me how I work as a therapist, or any other questions you may have that are specific to you. You’ll also be able to briefly share what’s on your mind and I can share my ideas around how I can help you.
Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?
It can be concerning to feel like things you say or do in therapy could “get out.” So I want you to know that unless there is an imminent danger to yourself or someone else, everything you share with me is completely confidential. I highly respect your privacy and value your trust. If you have specific questions about how confidentiality works, you can ask during your during a free phone consultation or anytime during our work together.
How long will therapy take?
The total duration of therapy varies from client to client. Some of my clients find 6-12 weeks to be enough to resolve immediate challenges. While other clients feel more supported by longer-term therapy.
We will work together to find the length of time that works for you. We will also build in reviews to check how you are finding the process. I usually ask that we work on a weekly basis, at least initially. However, we can discuss your needs around frequency at your telephone consultation or during your first session.
What can I expect during the first session?
The first session is more structured as I’ll ask questions to get to know you and the challenges that brought you to counselling. I’ll invite you to share more about yourself and we can also talk about what’s worked or not worked for your mental health in the past.
Some questions that I like to ask during a first session include:
- What brought you to therapy?
- Have you gone to therapy before? How did that go?
- What goals would you like to reach by going to therapy?
You can ask me questions as well. You might be curious about my training / experience or what future sessions will be like.
The most important part of a first session is that you see if you feel I’m a good fit for you. If you feel welcomed, heard and accepted with me, we can discuss if you’d like to meet again.
How can I get started?
I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation where you can discuss what’s on your mind and ask me any questions about my counselling service.
If you decide to proceed with an initial appointment I can email you an agreement form with more information about rights, responsibilities, and the Covid safety measures I have put in place.
You can fill in the contact form at the bottom of the page to get in touch.

What is Counselling?
At any point in our life, we may experience emotional difficulties. Counselling is a safe space where you can be yourself, and bring up whatever is going on for you. In feeling safe and comfortable, you’ll be able to gain clarity and be understood and heard. The first few sessions are about building trust, and we will go at your pace. The process is a collaborative one. After all, you are the expert of YOU.
